This is Hurts. Besides being a synthpop band from Manchester, they are also two extremely good-looking boys who are about the same age as mine. Heh heh. I had my first one-on-one interview ever, with them. In the first five minutes upon entering the hotel room, I:
- Tripped over a chair (which I totally ignored doing).
- Completely forgot to introduce myself.
- Blurted out “Hey, nice hair!” without thinking. Though I shouldn’t really be blamed for that one, their hair is sleek, combed and perfectly fit for a Brylcreem ad.
- Turned into such a girl who wouldn’t stop blushing every time Adam helped me with my (borrowed) digital voice recorder. It’s a sort of lucky coincidence that Theo and Adam used the exact same gadget when they first started recording their music, so I was saved.
But despite the slightly mortifying start, the interview actually went rather well. I ended up not asking all my listed questions and invented new ones along the way, but it was great. The best advice I got at the time was to ‘go with the flow of the conversation’ and I tried to do exactly just that.
